Are you guys excited for a Obi-Wan Solo film!?
News broke in August that Lucasfilm were in the process of setting up the project, which has yet to be officially announced. But now production sources have told Omega Underground that the film is gearing up for an early 2019 start at Pinewood Studios in London.
The site has also reported that the film is being produced under the code name "Joshua Tree" – the real-life national park which has served as the shooting location for Tattooine, Luke Skywalker's home planet.
The Obi-Wan project would be the latest in the ever-expanding "Star Wars universe" of films. Currently in production is the initially problematic Han Solo spin-off with director Ron Howard, while other character-centric spin-offs have long been mooted, among them films centered on both bounty hunter Boba Fett and pint-sized Jedi master Yoda.
Ewan McGregor, who portrayed Obi-Wan in the three Star Wars prequels and supplied his voice as the character in 2015's The Force Awakens, said last year that he'd be open to returning to the role. The rumoured Obi-Wan project is speculated to arrive in 2020, following a May 2018 release for Solo: A Star Wars Story, and a December 2019 release for JJ Abrams's Star Wars: Episode IX.
